Express Sunrooms of the Carolinas is a family business working out of Pleasant Oaks Circle in northwest Charlotte. We design, permit and build the whole enclosure ourselves, from the footings to the last screen panel.
Express Sunrooms of the Carolinas builds screened and glass pool enclosures for homes across Charlotte and the surrounding counties. A pool enclosure is an aluminum-framed structure, with screen or glass walls and roof, that covers your pool and deck to keep out bugs, leaves and debris. We’ve built outdoor rooms in the Charlotte area since 1995, and we design each enclosure around the house, the pool and the trees around it. We handle the drawings, the permit and the inspections.
We build two kinds of pool enclosures: screened pool cages, which keep bugs and debris out while letting the breeze through, and glass enclosures, which add solid walls and roof so you can use the pool area in cooler weather. Both use aluminum framing, which doesn’t rust around pool water.
A screened enclosure can attach to your roofline or stand on its own around the pool. Finer no-see-um mesh stops the tiny biting gnats regular screen lets through, and a solid kick plate or privacy screen on the lower walls adds privacy and protects the screen from pool toys and pets. For the fully closed version, see our glass enclosures.
Most Charlotte pool owners enclose the pool to stop spending summer skimming leaves and swatting mosquitoes. An enclosure keeps pine needles, oak leaves and spring pollen out of the water, cuts down on bugs around the deck, and puts a barrier between the pool and the yard.
That matters in this part of the Carolinas. Pines drop needles all year, the yellow pine pollen coats every surface each spring, and hardwoods unload their leaves every fall. Less debris in the water means less time skimming and less work for your filter.

Three decades of Carolina pools, decks and backyards. We know how pines, pollen and summer storms treat an enclosure.
Every pool enclosure needs a building permit. We prepare the drawings, pull the permit and schedule each inspection.
Aluminum framing that won't rust around pool water, anchored to footings sized for your deck and the local wind and snow loads.
Standard insect mesh, finer no-see-um mesh, and privacy or solar panels on the lower walls, chosen for how you use the pool.
We follow a clear and proven process to ensure every project is smooth, efficient, and built to perfection.
We measure the pool and deck, look at the house roofline and the trees overhead, and check where the frame can anchor.
You choose screen or glass, roof style, doors and mesh. We draw it up, give you a written estimate and pull the permit.
Footings where needed, aluminum frame, then screens or glass and doors. Usually one crew from start to finish.
The county signs off, we walk the enclosure with you and hand over the warranty paperwork.
Which option fits your pool?
A screened enclosure keeps bugs and debris out while staying open to the breeze, a glass enclosure closes the pool in so you can use it in cooler weather, and a pool fence only controls who can get to the water. A fence costs the least, glass costs the most, and a screened enclosure sits in between.
| Pool fence | Screened enclosure | Glass enclosure | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it covers | The edge of the pool area, nothing overhead | Pool and deck, screen walls and roof | Pool and deck, glass walls and a solid or glass roof |
| Bugs and debris | No protection | Keeps them out | Keeps them out |
| Airflow | Fully open | Breeze passes through | Closed in, needs ventilation |
| Swimming season | Warm months | Warm months, without the mosquitoes | Stretches into cooler months |
| Cost | Lowest | Middle | Highest |
Want the fully closed version? See our glass enclosures. Only need a barrier? We also handle fence installation.
It can, when the enclosure fully surrounds the pool and its doors close and latch on their own. Pool Safely, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's drowning prevention campaign, recommends a barrier that completely surrounds the pool, at least 4 feet high, with self-closing and self-latching gates that open out from the pool.
If you want your enclosure to serve as the pool barrier, tell us at the estimate. We'll plan the doors and hardware around it and confirm the requirements with your county inspector during the permit.
In south Charlotte and Union County, around Ballantyne, Weddington and Waxhaw, many pool yards sit under mature pines and hardwoods, so needles and leaves land in the water most of the year. Around Lake Norman in Huntersville and Mooresville, the bigger complaint is bugs coming off the water at dusk.
Across the state line in Fort Mill and Tega Cay, a lot of pools went in before anyone planned an enclosure. That's usually fine. We check the existing deck and add footings at the edge where the frame needs them.
Pool enclosure cost in Charlotte depends on the size of the pool and deck, the height and roof style, screen or glass, and whether the frame attaches to the house. Screened enclosures cost less than glass, and an enclosure attached to the house usually costs less than a tall freestanding one. You get a written price at a free on-site estimate.
A pool enclosure is a structure, so it needs a building permit. In Mecklenburg County that goes through Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement, and the frame has to be designed for local wind and snow loads. We prepare the drawings and handle the permit and inspections for you.

Great to work with. Express Sunrooms of Charlotte seem to care about us as the customer. Very responsible and reasonable. Perform high quality results and willing to take on smaller jobs like putting a metal roof on our over-sized shed. Glad we found Express at the Charlotte/Concord Home show. Will continue to work with them in the future. Super plus all the way!Posted on Google![]()

David and his crew did an awesome job! They gave me the best price out of many estimates. Put me on the schedule quicker than any other company could! Not because they didn't have the same workload....but because his guys actually work hard and get the job done quickly! Even the 95 degree heat didn't slow them down! My fence was made in The USA which was the icing on the cake for me! A great crew of Southern hospitality! Thanks again! :)

It depends on the size of the pool and deck, the height and roof style, screen or glass, and whether it attaches to the house. Screened enclosures cost less than glass. We give you a written price at a free on-site estimate, or you can get a ballpark from our cost calculator.
Yes. A pool enclosure is a structure, so it needs a building permit, through Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement in Charlotte or your own county office elsewhere. We prepare the drawings, pull the permit and schedule the inspections.
A screened enclosure is the right fit if you swim in the warm months and want the breeze without the bugs and leaves. A glass enclosure costs more but lets you use the pool area when the weather cools off. Glass makes sense if you want a room you can use most of the year. See our glass enclosures.
It can, if it fully surrounds the pool and the doors close and latch on their own. The CPSC's Pool Safely campaign recommends a barrier at least 4 feet high with self-closing, self-latching gates. Tell us at the estimate and we'll confirm the details with your county inspector.
Yes. The roof screen catches leaves, needles and most pollen before they reach the water. Some debris will collect on top of the roof screen, so plan to blow or rinse it off a few times a year, especially in the fall.
Usually, yes. We check the condition of the deck and where the frame needs to anchor, then add footings at the edge of the deck where they're needed. Building around a pool that's already in the ground is common.
Rinse the screens with a garden hose, clear debris off the roof screen, and check that the doors still close and latch on their own. A damaged screen panel can be replaced on its own without redoing the whole enclosure. Our annual maintenance packages can handle this for you.
